Coffs Harbour is the largest city on the northern New South Wales coast. It is an important tourism and agricultural centre and has the only all weather harbour between Port Stephens and Brisbane that is capable of handling commercial shipping. There is also a boat harbour and marina that is always busy with fishing charter boats, yachts and power craft travelling up and down the coast. Coffs harbour is a bustling busy city. It is a favourite holiday destination for country dwellers from the New England region who can drive direct to the coast from either Tamworth or Armidale.
There is plenty of excellent accommodation in Coffs harbour. On the north side there are a number of luxury resorts that are located right on the beachfront. There is a thriving restaurant industry with fresh seafood from the local trawler fleet being a speciality. Cafes and great regional shopping centres will cater for your every need. There is also plenty to see and do if you holiday in Coffs Harbour. There are numerous tours available. During the migration of the southern humpback whales, which travel close to the coast, there is a thriving whale watching industry. Fishing charters are really popular and the waters of the offshore island group which is known as the Solitary Islands are really prolific. The Hinterland is magnificent. The region around Dorrigo on the mountain plain to the west of Coffs Harbour is one of the most beautiful in Australia. Tall forests of Eucalypt, rolling pastureland and fast flowing streams provide a uniquely Australian atmosphere. This is a great destination for a day tour or a picnic.
In Coffs Harbour itself there are a number of great attractions. If you are into golf, come and have a round at Bonville which is located a few kilometres to the south. It is a magnificent course with tall stringybarks lining the fairways and huge grasstrees creating a superb landscape. Coffs harbour is the centre of a huge banana growing industry. A large tourist attraction has been developed on the north side of town. The "Big Banana" is an icon on the north coast of New South Wales and every traveller pays a visit here. Coffs harbour has its own airport so it is really easy to get to. It is also on the Pacific Highway with regular coach services from Sydney and Brisbane, or you can drive yourself and enjoy the trip through some of Australia’s most beautiful countryside. However you choose to arrive in Coffs Harbour, you will be in for an enjoyable and relaxing stay.
